"In the haunted house of life, art is the only stair that doesn't creak" – Tom Robbins
When we talk about Art at Susie Watson Designs, we talk about it in its broadest sense. Art is about making things that are beautiful. It is an expression of human imagination and skill, as present in an Old Master painting as it is in a hand-turned table leg. At its most powerful, it can inspire us, give us an outlet from our daily routines and boost our happiness levels. But it doesn’t have to be enjoyed as something behind glass, or from a distance. So, don't wait for Sundays and special days, but include a little Art into your everyday....
The Human touch
We are very passionate about hand-made things. It is true that mass-produced items are cheaper and yet it seems crazy to compare them to their hand-made counterparts. Making by hand celebrates craftsmanship over consumerism. It sustains communities, culture and creativity. We have all become so accustomed to machine-made products, that we sometimes forget the effort, time and skill involved in making something by hand. This understanding alone adds fresh meaning to the things we use every day – and helps us to enjoy them more.
Part of a larger ‘We’
Engaging with Art connects us to our senses, body, and mind. Whenever we see a work of Art, we immediately want to know: who created this? Engaging with Art is not simply a solitary event – and even though we may never shake the hand that made it, we connect more deeply with an object, once we understand how it was created. Our artisans sign their works (where possible), to connect themselves to their work but also to allow you to connect with them. Art represents a way for people to come together and share an aesthetic experience, even if they live on opposite sides of the world.
