The beauty of handmade furniture is created by the slight imperfections and differences which give it character. Exact symmetry is not the aim. Machines automatically achieve this and the result is somewhat bland and characterless. Wood is a natural product and the finish and colour is never exactly even, that is the beauty of it.
We use 100 year old reclaimed Burmese teak to make our garden furniture. Teak from Burma is renowned for its superior quality and using reclaimed mature wood is really sustainable. Teak will become grey quite quickly and may well crack and split a little as it settles into its new conditions, this will not affect its strength. Rain and sun will weather it and it will gradually become a dark grey. We would suggest a scrub with soapy water in spring to clean it. Its weathered appearance will merge gracefully into its garden surroundings.
Due to its weight, this item should be placed in a permanent position rather than lifted regularly and should not be lifted by the curved arms of the Chair.

We work with three generations of the Goels family, highly skilled artisan cabinet makers based in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Originally an antiques and furniture restoration business, their passion and expertise naturally evolved into producing their own exquisite range of traditionally made furniture. Every piece is meticulously hand-crafted from natural hardwood, with shapes carved and sanded by hand, intricate designs painstakingly detailed, and caning and turning carried out using time-honoured techniques passed from father to son.
