Going Green!

Going Green!

Inspiration for a Summer Green room scheme

When it comes to Interior Design, green is a bit of a wild card. On the one hand it is an uplifting, restorative colour, associated with growth, health and the natural world but it can inspire less than positive emotions too – jealousy, green and sickness. Harnessed in the right way, green can rejuvenate a space, adding freshness and light but too much of the wrong shade and green can convey a sickly, dingy feeling. So, whether you want to make it a statement colour or more of a gentle whisper, here are our top tips for ‘going green…’
1. Walls
Walls are the quickest way of getting colour into a room. The darker the green, the stronger the impact. Green paint will deliver a solid block of colour and stronger, darker greens often work extremely well in studies and smaller spaces. Our Olive paint has been mixed with versatility in mind: to reflect light and add warmth and freshness to rooms of all sizes. For a softer impact, our Summer Green wide-stripe wallpaper includes two tones of green, and the stripes help to add height and elegance to a room. For more subtle hints green on the walls, why not try one of our patterned wallpapers, such as our delicate Maja Green wallpaper.
2. Curtains and Upholstery
Bespoke details are a great way of making a room feel unique. Upholstered furniture – whether a small armchair or a bedhead, can really transform a space. When choosing curtains, bear in mind the orientation of the room. For example, a north-facing room which gets less sun may benefit from thicker, bolder or textured fabrics to create warmth and cosiness. Don’t forget to check out our NEW Green gold sacha linen – which lends itself beautifully to upholstery and curtains alike.
3. Green Textures
Because of its ability to inspire calmness and relaxation, green is a soothing colour and thus often used in bedrooms. But if green walls are a step too far, then beds offer a key focal point and a great opportunity for injecting colour. Our quilts are appliqued with delicate floral themes, and the exquisite needlework combined with varied textures are works of art, helping to make a bedroom both beautiful and interesting at the same time. Patterned cottons are also a good way to add green touches. Even the combination of a carefully chosen throw and cushions can help to add your own individual touch to a room.
4. Green Accents
Taking risks with colour combinations can really pay off. One of the reasons why green is such a central colour in our collections, is its ability to work alongside a whole host of other colours. Bold, arresting colour combinations and textures can create maximum impact on a plain sofa. But fabrics are not things which can carry colour. Why not try our Celadon Ragini rug to unite a red/green scheme; or add a whisper of green at eye-level, with our Catkin Sprig lampshade.
