How We Make Our Pottery
Our beautiful pottery is handmade from start to finish by our talented team of artisans in Sri Lanka. It is hard to exaggerate the extraordinary skill and care that goes into the production process; each piece is a little work of art and is durable enough to last a lifetime.

Our Ceramics Studio
Our charming ceramics studio in Sri Lanka was founded over 50 years ago with just four employees. The factory, which is run by two brothers; Anura & Kumudu now has around 300 employees and is much more of a studio environment than a factory. Traditional skills have been preserved and every piece in our ceramics range is entirely handmade.
Weeks of work go in to new product development. We work very closely with our production manager Sameera and his team of artists on new designs and colours. Handmade production is always very challenging, but as well as being beautiful, our ceramics are superb quality and a real testament to the skill that goes in to making them.

The Art of Handmade
A ceramic design often starts as a simple sketch on a piece of paper and goes through a lengthy creative process before being selected for production. Once the basic clay shapes are made, every piece is fired three times, in enormous kilns, before any decoration is added.
Each design is delicately hand-decorated; sponges are cut out by hand before being carefully positioned on to the piece, the finer details are then applied freehand by brush. The finishing touch is the artists initials on the base, before a fourth and final firing. The end result is a beautiful yet durable ceramics collection, each one a little work of art and robust enough to be enjoyed every single day.

Working With The Team
The atmosphere in the studio is both friendly and caring; as with all our factories, our partnership is one of mutual respect. We recognise and embrace our inter-dependence, knowing our future success is closely linked.
The production of our ceramics took over a year to get right. The team painstakingly resurrected old traditional techniques and invented new ones to achieve the look we wanted. The way our pottery is made is much closer to traditional studio methods and is highly skilled. Each piece is beautifully hand-crafted.
